Discoveries: New Student Welcome Experience
Welcome, new DU students!
The New Student & Family Programs team is excited to welcome you to the University of Denver! Your new student welcome experience, Discoveries, will consist of the following components starting in May.
- DU Bound Newsletter: monthly newsletter highlighting important dates, reminders and next steps as you start your journey to DU!
- Discoveries Online Experience: monthly virtual orientation experience that takes place online with modules and virtual meet and greets to connect with other new DU students.
- Discoveries Orientation: in-person orientation taking place prior to the start of classes. During this time you will meet your 4D Peer Mentor, FSEM Faculty member, other DU students, learn to navigate campus and hear about all the resources and support services available to you. Family Orientation will take place the day of new student move-in.
- 4D Peer Mentorship: consists of current DU student leaders who serve as mentors to new students throughout their first year at DU. These 4D Peer Mentors facilitate small groups during Discoveries Orientation, support FSEM courses/Transfer Groups, as well as First Ascent, Weekly Discoveries programs, and Mentorship Meetings with the new students and support FSEM faculty as needed.
- First Ascent: an experiential opportunity that is personalized to new students, allowing them time and space to self-reflect and enjoy nature while connecting with their peers at our breathtaking Kennedy Mountain Campus (KMC).
- Weekly Discoveries: weekly program opportunities to support your first quarter as a new student. These will be led by your constellation of mentors including your 4D Peer Mentor as well as other university mentors and departments.
New Student Orientation, or as we call it here, Discoveries Orientation, is our introduction to the DU experience. Discoveries consists of both online and in-person content. Our online content will be available beginning in May. To learn more about this content, visit our Discoveries Online tab.
Our in-person Discoveries Orientation programming begins on the Tuesday of Move In and programming is ongoing until the start of classes. During this time, you can expect to learn how to be successful inside and outside of the classroom at DU, navigate campus, learn about valuable resources and support services while getting to know your peers!
